Re: Nazareth and the Historicity of Jesus

The nativity was inserted later because not much is not known about Caesar's childhood, so they replaced it with his adoptive son's.

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

Marcion rejected the OT. That's because before the Flavians you didn't need the OT to interpret the gospel. The gospel must have had less references to the OT, or even none at all. So it doesn't follow that the gospel's setting was Jerusalem instead of Rome, or that the river was the Jordan instead ...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

If the Flavians tried to rewrite Caesar into oblivion, then of course they're going to try to distort Marcion so he doesn't look like a witness.

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

Also, since Marcion is the earliest church father he's the one least likely to be influenced by Josephus and thus closest to "Jesus was Caesar".

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

Josephus was called Flavius Josephus. He's also Flavian. If there are Josephan "fingerprints" in the NT then there are also Flavian "fingerprints".

Re: Was Paul Josephus?

In the NT there is an epistle to Titus, overseer/supervisor of "Paul". How do we know this is not a letter from Josephus to his supervisor, emperor Titus?

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

Does this mean it is all post destruction of Temple or there had been a tradition of asking do we need a temple? YES! Exactly! It is post destruction of the Temple and the Flavian's fingerprints are all over this! Correct, correct, correct!!! I see Justin is from a Roman colony founded by Vespasian...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

As no early Christians were ever identified as seeing Jesus as a symbol for Julius Caesar it is pointless to drag this possibility into a story which seems to be about something else entirely - and something specifically Jewish at that. But Christianity could have emerged from the Roman veteran col...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias

Finally a good question. My guess the substitution myth. But Moses has no cross. Where does the cross come from? He also doesn't have kingship or a wreath. Where do the kingship and the wreath/crown come from? What's also weird is that in "we have no king but Caesar" at least a comparison...
