Re: Continuing Animal Sacrifice in Christianity
Although slaughter for sacrifice contradicts a basic belief of Christianity, it is practiced by local Catholics, Greek Orthodox and other Christians at the ruined Byzantine church of Saint George in the village of Taybeh, 20 miles from Jerusalem. "Around 70 to 80 lambs are sacrificed here each...

Re: What Do Mythicists Want?
Would they be content with an acknowledgement that Jesus might not have existed or are they arguing that the lack of evidence for his existence proves the events described in the gospel don't go back to an actual historical individual? I can speak only for myself obviously. It doesn't matter to me ...

Re: My Faith as I am Coming to Learn It
It's funny how timing works. I was was just listening to some of George MacDonald's sermons narrated by Lloyd James, and in one of MacDonald's sermons he made a statement of Hell Fire as the fire that cleanses sinners (a paraphrase of his statement) however, I have it marked in the audio book to re...

Re: For atheist to answer
The question I ask, is to see what responses are given by atheist. I am not looking to refute the answers, only to observe the replies. The question is simple: How do we know that evil and suffering exists? Suffering exists because remaining alive necessitates a mechanism to produce the sensation o...

The passage you commented upon was written by Carrier, not me. If you object to some points, put your stuff on Carrier's blog.

Re: Richard Carrier: Merry Christmas, God Is Still a Delusio
From an excellent blog post by Richard Carrier (which I advise anyone on this forum to read entirely): http://freethoughtblogs.com/carrier/archives/4973#more-4973 That's too bad he chose the mythicist case with that crucifixion in heaven. He is very good in almost every other fields but I am afraid...

Re: My Mother Just Tried to Explain the Jesus Myth Theory to
Nothing like a Mark Twain quote to release frustrations and make it laughable: (though I would have liked him to include atheists along with religion and politics) In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from...
