Re: Is Prof Price against the Reductio ad Judaeum?
The character Jesus is Jewish in Luke's . Nothing can change this. Not believing would not change that. If Marcion's version of Luke is earlier then Jesus is a god other than Yahweh walking around in a Jew-looking body but who is not actually a Jew in ethnicity or belief. Marcion is nothing at all....

Re: Any Idea What Work Clement and Epiphanius Are Citing?
Thanks Ben. Excellent work. The story is odd because it assumes that a prominent companion of the apostles was married (so it was at odds with Marcionism). Yet Marcionism or at least asceticism lurks in the background insofar as it reminds me of the story in the background of the History of the Cop...

Re: Sure that the 'Lord of glory' is Jesus?
A thread highly speculative, but I try equally :D 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom , however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; 7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined befor...

Could Acts be a Montanist work?
Today on a forum I saw someone using this to argue the personhood of the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:2 "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them." And my thought was: I have always read this much like ...

Re: Valens/Valentinus, Flora/Florinus and Marcus/Marcianus
This thread is the "everyone named Donald is Trump, everyone named George is Bush, and everyone named Barry is Bathhouse Barry" fallacy. then just throw in Ronald, Jorge, and Barak for good measure, and you have perfect Huller logic. Barry Allen = Barry Obummer. Ronald Regan = Donald Trump...

Re: Luke 10:18 as anti-marcionite point
Luke 10:17-24 17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” 18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm yo...

Re: Another Curious Dependence on Matthew for Marcion
I think I now see why the Marcionites were so antijewish. I mean here you have a sect well known for taking the OT literal and rejecting the OT god. But along comes a Jew to tell us they were actually gematria nutters who loved the OT god. I guess they were right; Jews just cant help by try to Judai...

Re: Another Curious Dependence on Matthew for Marcion
But how do you get to redemption from there? Blackman and everyone else ties the 'blood of Jesus' literally to his death and crucifixion. Rightly. If in the communion institution he said something like "this is [a symbol for] my blood which is shed to purchase you from the god of this world an...
