Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention
I was specifically referring to anything that could be identified with the orthodox Christian religion. In addition, there is no reason to assume that these writings were originally Christian documents at all, as opposed to composites and texts ADOPTED into Christianity in their form with a few cha...

Re: evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistl
Paulus is not a real name, just like Cephas is not a real name; both are common nouns unattested as actual names before Christianity. The Pauline epistles themselves don't contain the name Saul. I don't know why you accept at face value the interpretation of Acts that the real name of Paul is Saul....

Re: evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistl
I really do see your point, dewitness, but there are some who would say that you are begging the question (the answer to which is important) when you state your premise that the stories of Jesus had no existence before they achieved literary form in the Gospels. I have not stated [/b] " that t...

Re: evidence for Christianity before the third Roman Jewish
As a back handed way of directing attention to the idea of an old tradition rather than a later one. With the approach of "See, even the haters of christianity accept its origins going back long ago before Constantine." Your suggestion makes very little sense. If, as you imply, there was ...

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention
The fact is that no ancient sources presented a canon of three gospels and twenty epistles or six gospels and ten epistles, or acanon rejecting Acts as a fraud. The canon was always presented as the traditional set. And that is more important than insulting me with argumentum ad hominem. It is for ...

Re: evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistl
Do you know any scholars who did entertain your views that Paul wrote some of his letters after 70, and visited or planned to visit Jerusalem then? And I thought you abandoned that idea and kept two options: a fabricated Paul (after 70) or a true Paul active in the 40's and 50's. (1) Probably Rober...

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention
.... Paul, the recipient of a revelation direct from God and not from man, is the necessary hero for the Christians who wish to reject Judaism, as neither Simon Peter nor James the Just nor John nor any of the brothers of the Lord / the Twelve / apostles before him were available for that cause, as...

Re: evidence for Christianity before the third Roman Jewish
You still need to identify the parts that are composites. Who would write books giving the reasons why the stories of Jesus are childish monstrous fables?Duvduv wrote:I have already suggested the content of the book as a composite in terms. Please go back and look at that posting.

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention
In the NT, it is claimed Jesus of Nazareth preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. In the Gospels, Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of God BEFORE Paul the persecutor preached Christ crucified, died for our sins and resurrected on the third day. In gMark, the Gospel of Jesus is repeated mu...
