Re: Craig Evans talking about Wallace's mummy mask Mark frag
Evans sent Ehrman a few paragraphs trying to defend the destruction of the masks (something Ehrman has been quite critical of). Ehrman (with Evans' permission) posted it on his blog. Worth a read. Says it won't be published for a few more years and hints that they may have discovered some more 2nd ...

Re: Carrier vs. Rent-an-Apologist on Historicity of Jesus
What does that have to do with my statement? Since all Christian literature post-dates the alleged life of Jesus it's fallacious to object to the Ascension of Isaiah on that grounds and a non-sequitur to call it "dishonest" unless Carrier is actually lying about the dates (something which...

Re: Carrier vs. Rent-an-Apologist on Historicity of Jesus
Horn has pegged carrier as a liar right from the beginning. [using sources dated later then the origins of the movement] If this is true, then Carrier has no credibility what so ever. edit Carrier tries to dig himself out of the dishonesty hole he dug, but im not convinced by his explanation of Asc...

Re: Rank, Raglan, Freud, a Texas Sharpshooter, and Jesus
MCGRATH Its folklorist users show little or no interest in the attempt to do what historians do, namely peeling back layers of myth in search of underlying history, if there is any. CARR Is that what historians do? I always wondered what they spend their time on. Turns out they can penetrate layers ...

Re: New Fragment of Mark! Dated 1st century!
http://michaelwholmes.com/posts-and-comments-2/ An excellent, scholarly article. The Executive Director of the GSI makes clear his reasons for not telling anybody a single word from this manuscript. We have to be sure of the dating. Is it really a canonical document? Does it really date from the 1s...

Re: Carrier and the silence in Paul and early epistles
Doesn't Carrier quote some historicist scholars also claiming that the silence in Paul is something which needs explanation?
Other scholars don't just say 'Nothing to see here, move along please'. They also express some surprise that Paul does not let slip details of anything Jesus said or did.

And , using his time machine, he employed some of the phrases and details that the young Josephus was going to make famous 30 years later.steve43 wrote:The author of Luke/Acts was in Rome at the SAME time as the young Josephus was.
So there is your explanation.
Check it out. A.D. 63 or thereabouts.

Re: How mythicists are perceived by students and academics
You have to beat the champ to be the champ. Take ACTS as an example. There in NOTHING intrinsic to ACTS that suggests it was written at any other time than the mid-sixties A.D. Apart from it appearing to use Josephus as a source? When do most 'champs' date Acts? I guess most histories of WW2 were w...
