Re: Larry Jimenez on Who Really Wrote the Bible

OK, but I don't know where you're going with your question, toejam. Either there was a Q or there was not. Maybe the question won't be settled. But what is the point of a scholar's continuing to entertain two mutually incompatible hypotheses, if s/he wants to do further work on the synoptic problem...

Re: Larry Jimenez on Who Really Wrote the Bible

f, Can you expand on what you post here, Adam? What is the correct view about the narrative elements in Q, and how do we know it's correct? If it contained narrative at all, why no passion narrative - or did it have passion narrative? You speak of "the more apocalyptic Q2" as though we kno...

Jürgen Habermas currently ranks as one of the most influential philosophers in the world.
I don't think Gary Habermas and Jürgen Habermas are related at all.

I assume you meant Isaiah 53?

Re: Daniels 70 weeks made Simple

There is a similar discrepancy between Chronicles-Ezra-Nehemiah and Ezekiel regarding who exactly was running the show in the restored (2nd) temple. The names of the key players just don't match up.

Re: Peteavius on the Panarion

The issue here is whether the odd chronology is a (presumably accurate) account of the unusual views of the Nazoreans, or an account of Epiphanius' own views (garbled in transmission). Andrew, Reading through section 29 "Against Nazoraeans," the section you refer to seems to be setting up...

Re: Political allegory in the 'exoteric' legend of Jesus

On page 50, Hermann Detering summarizes the Dutch Radical AD Loman's 1881 proposal: "Christianity in its origin was nothing else than a Jewish-Messianic movement ... the figure of Jesus had never existed, but represented a symbolization and personification of thoughts that could only make full...

Re: Peteavius on the Panarion

Epiphanius, in general, never struck me as a guy overly concerned with accuracy. Maybe it's his writing style (and this is subjective, obviously), but to me he just comes across as sloppy, ill-informed, and perhaps not the brightest tool in the shed. When other church fathers say weird shit (Irenae...
