Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

to Huller,
We even have a testimony from a single long gospel community making fun of Irenaeus's fourfold gospel.
Can you elaborate? Which community, which text?

Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

I've made reference to the argument that Justin had a harmony from Hengel. I've made reference to Theophilus's text from Petersen. This is a highly specialized field of study and I am friends with the world's greatest authority on the subject, Tjitze Baarda. I can't bring you up to speed in a fortn...

Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

You really can't be this dense. The communities who used the single long gospel did not refer to the text as a harmony for God's sake. This shows you've spent all of a minute on what is certainly the earliest cultural remnant from Christianity. Only those who posited the existence of 'four gospels'...

Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

(a) 'according to Matthew' was unknown before Irenaeus I do not agree with that: internal evidence shows it was out in the 1st century and part of its text appears in late 1st century writings and early 2nd century. (b) it was developed by falsifying a key witness (= misrepresenting its pedigree). ...

Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

As we have already noted, Marcion's gospel was a 'harmony' according to all the evidence, Leucius (the author of the highly influential Acts of John) has been demonstrated to have used a 'harmony,' the Valentinians used 'harmonies,' Manichaeans like Faustus and Augustine used 'harmonies.' Again mor...

Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

Irenaeus provided (or just propagated) bogus authors to texts which will become canonical later. But that does not mean, he, or others in his times, created the texts, or heavily added on them. As for the gospel according to John, I do not see how you can deduct it was Irenaeus who introduced that g...

Re: Only Fantastically Amazing People Think We Have The Ur-C

Hmmm. So to speak frankly and openly you are saying he was lying about the origins of his 'according to Matthew.' He remembered that Papias made some statement about the 'oracles of the Lord' associated with 'Matthew' and then you suggest in a previous post that he took an anonymous gospel narrativ...

Re: Only Idiots Could Believe We Have The Ur-Canon

to Huller, I still do not see how you can draw all these conclusions, such as Irenaeus concocted Matthew's gospel, and the canonical gospels were unknown in the Eastern part of the Roman empire up to Irenaeus' times. Still haven't heard from Bernard from my original question: But was [Irenaeus] know...

Re: Only Fucking Idiots Could Believe We Have The Ur-Canon

unless they demonstrate that they have something interesting to say How you are going to know they have something interesting to say if you do not read them? Catch 22 Anyway, if anything interesting to say means something which supports your always evolving theories, then you can be sure I do not d...
