Re: GThomas as reaction to the proto-catholic reception of GMark and GMatthew

The account of Hegesippus is fiction only this James can go in the holy place? that's not how it worked, right? This means everything he says is suspect. Yes there are multiple James' it seems to me 'the Just' is a way to distinguish him from the Lord's brother and Hegesippus is trying to combine th...

ah thanks for that, interesting i've sometimes seen Thomas on Buddhist leaning websites. the similarities esoteric branches of religions have always fascinate me, i see that as the origin of Christianity coming from the Jewish side of things. but it's just a guess i admit that, no-one knows for sure...

Re: What is the history of claims that Christians' accounts about Jesus were accurate?

But GMark and GMatthew and GLuke do not claim to have been written by eyewitnesses. Well, Luke claims the eyewitnesses gave it to his people at the same time as acknowledging other gospels existed. I read this as meaning the other, older, gospels were not reliable and here is one that is. They woul...

Re: What is the history of claims that Christians' accounts about Jesus were accurate?

freeze things at mid/late 2nd century - there is 1 Peter + Acts and the Luke prologue...booooom about the time eye witnesses start to come forward! Justin's on the cusp. Before him - the Shephard of Hermas has no gospels, or Hebrews or the pastorals or the apostle or revelation. Even Acts has no gos...

Re: Different types of pseudo-atheists

This is the problem. If you were to send a news reporter back in time to interview the historical Jesus would we expect Jesus to talk 'normal' like he was just another guest on the program. No. He would define the 'state of consciousness' of the interview and start interviewing the interviewer. You ...

Re: Born of the womb before sun and moon

We should also add Revelation chapter 12 to this discussion. It's a very astrological birth of Jesus story with the sun and moon featured.
