True, but that leaves the possibility it mentions Pilate's ultimate disposition after Gaius. Still not a book about Pilate it would seem, plus it should b cited as his reasoning if this is the case.

This reads to me that there was more to follow, granted I had to look up what palinode means, but it suggests a poetic reversal of position previously taken.

The question is: what is the best guess based on the data available? Are there any other options for IC XC that are as strong as "Jesus Christ"? I honestly don't know. I'll plead my ignorance at this point. But I'll leave it there, since it is off-topic. It sounds like an important topic ...
