Babylonian Talmud, Soncino translation, downloadable in PDF.

I downloaded these files quite some time ago and keep them organized in six folders (one per Talmudic Order ) on my external hard drive. They come in very handy: https://halakhah.com . Thought some others on this forum might like to know where to find them, since other online translations of the Tal...

Re: does jesus' family think that he is mental?

I think, then, that it is possible you do not mean Irenaeus. You mean Epiphanius, who in Panarion 42.11.6, 17 alleges that the Marcionite gospel lacked Luke 8.19 (the Lucan parallel to Mark 3.31). I have the relevant data posted here: http://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1765#p393...

Re: Dating of Hebrews after the 70 CE?

Footnote 48 is “A fox in the Holy of Holies, Tractate Macot 24a” I assume this is from the Talmud. Yes, Makkot(h) is a tractate of the fourth order of the Mishnah or Talmud, Nezikin . The following is from folio 24b (not 24a, which may simply be a misprint): Long ago, as Rabban Gamaliel, R. Eleazar...

Re: does jesus' family think that he is mental?

I'm hoping this is a setup for arguing that verse 31 is an interpolation. We know from Ireneaus that this verse was lacking in "heretical" copies of Mark. They contained 3:32 without 3:31. Where does Irenaeus say that Mark 3.31 was missing in some heretical versions? It'll take me a bit t...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

Are you talking about different word endings in Greek to show cases? Yes. What I am saying is that if Mark doesn’t care about the specialness of the twelve, then he would not have used “Simon Peter” in his resurrection appearance to link back to the appointment of Simon surnamed Peter as one of the...

Re: Septuagint question

In the DSS, there is a fragment usually entitled “The Prayer of Nabonidus” (4Q242) that may have served as the base for the story told in Daniel ... "The words of the prayer of Nabunai king of the l[and of Ba]bylon, [the great] king, [when he was afflicted] with an evil ulcer in Teiman by decr...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

Thank you, Kunigunde, for your awesome posts. I am thinking about them — in between fantasies about hot chocolate (miraculously transported to Palestine a millennium and a half before the Columbian exchange), fruits, and sweets — and will get back to you.

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

But not as a name, "Peter Simon". Rather, Jesus "said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep?'" I thought that the Greek does not have punctuation and so there is no comma in the Greek. I also read that the word order in Greek is not as important in Greek as in English. Therefore it c...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

I see your point, but I was pointing out two issues which I think make your hypothesis unlikely, secondly that Mark in 14:37 has “Peter Simon”. But not as a name, "Peter Simon". Rather, Jesus "said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep?'" And firstly that Mark has Simon in his gospel...
