Re: Carrier And Mimesis

And alluding to the fact that there is only one mention of a 'Gospel according to Mark' before the time of Eusebius - a mention by Irenaeus. The silence is glaring. Wait. Why are you disqualifying the mentions of Mark's gospel by Clement of Alexandria, Hippolytus, Tertullian, Origen, and Victorinus...

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

Unless he was also a disciple of Eusebius?. Drinking mountainman's coffee way out in left field again ? -- (I put the possessive apostrophe in for you) No. Partly teasing you. And alluding to the fact that, as far as I can tell, there is only one mention of a 'Gospel according to Mark' before the t...

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

To say that the NT is a ' mimetic' imitation of the Odyssey is an ' ante-mimetic' fantasy. No-one is saying ' the NT' in [it's entirety] is a 'mimetic' imitation of the Odyssey. Only Mark? It* is then a trivial remark not worth spending time on it. * Depends on what you mean by 'it'. If you mean *i...

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

Christianity is the Hellenistic divorce of a perverted Proselyte Judaism, from the oppressed people who were real cultural Israelite Jews; viewed by Romans as rebellious trouble makers. It's not as simple as the few premises implied by that sentence. Yes, there had been Hellenism. Yes, there had be...

No-one is saying *the NT* is a ' mimetic' imitation of the Odyssey.

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

Here is what Macdonald has said - Like Odysseus, Jesus is a wise carpenter who suffers many things and sails on the sea with associates who are foolish and even treacherous. There is no comparison here. Carpenter is also a severe mistake on his part. The usage of tekton in the NT is one of embarras...

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

Parelllomania is a term used to besmirch theories like MacDonald's. It's a put-down to negate such theories. I agree that it could be but it's also the same term we would apply to silly movies like the Zeitgeist. :) To besmirch or disparage it? (I haven't seen Zeitgeist, so I dunno what it's about).

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

What exactly is OT intertextuality? Thanks :) The origin of the NT is the divorce of Hellenist perverting Judaism in the diaspora, from cultural Judaism of Israel. These authors used the OT text as it was the foundation of the movement they were trying to persuade others to join. Yes, Intertextuali...

Re: Carrier And Mimesis

In Carrier's book, "On the Historicity of Jesus", Carrier proposes that the gospel of Mark was based off the Homeric epics. He cites Dennis Macdonald extensively. Now Macdonald came out with a lot of this work quite a few years ago and it hasn't really caught on. Has his work been debunke...
