Greek mythology in Hebrew scripture.

Post by Ethan »

I primary study the Hebrew Scripture but when dwelling into Greek mythology, there is allot of references too Phoenicians in Greek stories and it seems the Hebrew Scripture and Ancient Greek scripture collaborate each other.

They are allot of unknown names and locations in Greek mythology but are easily solved using the Hebrew or Phoenician language, I also find Hebrew words in Greek mythology and Greek words in the Old Testament.

The Story of Perseus can also be considered a Hebrew story, since it's set in the Levant.

Pausanias: 4.35
Red water, in color like blood, is found in the land of the Hebrews near the city of Joppa. The water is close to the sea, and the account which the natives give of the spring is that Perseus, after destroying the sea-monster, to which the daughter of Cepheus was exposed, washed off the blood in the spring.

Pausanias 4:35 mentions 'Red Water' , identified as the River Abraham in the Levant, every February due too the volume of soil washed off the mountains due to heavy rain, the water turns reds making it appears the river is filled with Blood.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_River

This fits the account in Exodus 4:9 ' River shall become blood upon dry land ' that
is similar to Jonah 2:10 ' the fish vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

In the Septuagint the fish was known as Cetus, in Greek mythology, Cetus was slew by Perseus and it's blood turned the River red and thus identifying Perseus as a Hebrew or Phoenician character, the story of Perseus is based in 'Ethiopia , this is Joppa, also appears in the Book of Jonah.

Ethiopia appears in the Septuagint and thus assumed to be pure Greek, but the word can be derived from the Hebrew language, the
name Joppa /יָפוֹה/ derives from Peh /פֶּה/ meaning Mouth (of a river) , the name Ethiopia means 'Burnt Mouth' , so in Hebrew
it's אוּד יָפוֹה , the term 'burnt mouth' as in the definition of 'Estuary' ( mouth of a river) from PIE root ' *aidh- "to burn , in Hebrew
אוּד or אֵשׁ. Ethiopia in the Hebrew scripture is called Kush, this derives from κάος meaning 'Kindle or that which burns', that is
why Kush and Ethiopia are synonymous and not referring too Africa , but the Levant.

Other Greeks words that are Hebrew.
Europe = אוֹר פֶּה
Cilix = חָלָק (Smooth)
Agenor = תַּנּוּר
Memphis = מַיִם פֶּה ( River-Mouth)

The story of Perseus is interwoven in Jewish history, the earliest Jewish synagogues feature depictions of Medusa such as the sarcophagus at the old city of Caesarea in Israel and the Tzippori Synagogue. They story goes, Perseus lifted the head of Medusa defeating Cetus and it's blood turned the river red, this story alludes to Moses lifting up a serpentine rod turning the river red.

Exodus
7:12 they became serpents
7:15 - the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
7:17 - I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

The word Rod in Hebrew is /מַטֶּה/ or Matteh, evoking the name Medusa, thus it might have sounded like ' Moses lifted up Medusa
and turned the river red.

It is also coincidental that there is a depiction of Medusa in the Tzippori Synagogue, for Tzippori was the named wife of Moses
introduced in Exodus 2:21 as the daughter of Ragoul , the father of Medusa was Phorkus, Transliterating Phorkus in Hebrew
would also produce that name PRGU > RGU, Medusa had two sons, one named Chrysaor ( Sword) see Exodus 18:4 "delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh " The other son of Medusa is Pegasus cognate with Hebrew ' אָפִיק(aphiyq) or Greek πηγάζω ( Pegazo) both meaning ''spring / gush of water' and thus related to the Latin word Aqua ( Water ) but is awfully similar to the Latin Equus ( Horse) , the Greek word IPPOS ( Horse) but originally written IKKOS and this is the origin of the Trojan Horse, the Ancient Greek word is Doureios Hippos , Doureios in Hebrew is יַעַר (Ya-ar) 'Wood' and similar to the word יְאֹר ( River) , Exodus 2:3 could then be read ' Moses was placed in a wooden-horse' , the word 'Ya-ar' appears in Genesis 2:9 ' The Tree(Ior ) was in the middle' .

Moses was placed in a Box opened by a female ' Exodus 2:3' ( She opened the Box that was in the middle ) and Genesis 2:9 ( The Box was in the middle) but this 'Box' was also the Trojan Horse that was also opened by a Female or Pandora's Box, the name Dora is
also Hebrew יַעַר ( Wooden) .

In the story of Pandora, the Box was called 'Pithos, from Gk Pyxis ( Vessel) but the word is also Hebrew, פַּךְ (Pak ) also
meaning 'Vessel or flask' related to פָּכָה (Pakah) and thus אָפִיק ( Apiq ) 'Stream of Water thus goes back to the Horse allusion,.

The main problem with the story of Moses is Egypt and it's a similar to the problem with Ethiopia, The names Egypt and Ethiopia came from Greek Mythology, Aiguptios and Aethiopia. The word Aiguptios is a compound of Aig (Goat) and Uptios ( Laid on one's back)

αἴγ̀ ὕπτιος > αἰγύπτιος

Aig ( Goat) is the same as the Hebrew אַקּוֹ ( 'aqqow ) meaning Wild-Goat.

Gen 27:11 ' Esau my brother is a hairy (Seir) man, I am a smooth (Halak) man.

Esau was a 'hairy' man, the word in Hebrew also means Goat, the meaning of Gen 27:11 is revealed in Joshua 11:17 "Even from mount Halak (Smooth) , that goeth up to Seir (Hairy ) even unto Baalgad ( Gad means Goat) in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon "

This region is the snowy area of the Levant, they are describing the appearance of the Snow as a garment or the white coat of a Goat and the mountains that are not covered in snow, they are smooth, in Hebrew that is חָלָק ( Chalaq ) 'Smooth' and identical to the Greek word κόλακ̀ ( Kolak ) meaning Flat / Smooth and that is the origin of the word Colchis ( the destination of the Argonaut), In Greek mythology, the Golden fleece was named 'Deras' , that is the garment worn by Esau named Addereth and it's also the mantle of Elijah and the coat of Joseph.

The entire story of Moses took place in the Levant, the name Egypt in Hebrew is Mizraim which simply refers to a place between two rivers, from the Greek μέσο ῥόον ( between two streams) and is identical to the word Mesopotamia and are referring to Litani and Orontes, see also Genesis 25:20, the Hebrew writes 'Paddanaram' which derives from Greek πεδίον ἁρμός 'Between two joints' but this is confused with the other Mesopotamia.

Exodus mentions Pharaohs, thus must be set in Egypt, the problem, Ancient Egyptian monarchs weren't known as Pharaohs and studying
the word itself, it's not an Egyptian loan word but a word relating too Chariots and also the word Kyrios .

Exodus 14:6 - He made ready his Chariot
Sng 3:9 - King Solomon made a Chariot

Songs 3:9 uses a unique word for a Chariot, which is אַפִּרְיוֹן ( Aprion) and loaned from Greek πορεῖον (Poreion) or φορεῖον (Phoreion), between Latin and Greek, P and K interchange and so related to the words Chariot, Car, Carriage, Kyrios and Cherub.

In Exodus 14:6, the Chariot is called רֶכֶב ( Rekuv ) relating to Rĕkuwb which interchanges with Kĕruwb .

2 Samuel 22:11 - And he rode (Rakab) upon a cherub ( Keruwb) , and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind
Psalms 104:3 - Who maketh the clouds his chariot ( Rekuwb): who walketh upon the wings of the wind

There is a 4th Century BCE Silver drachm struck in Jerusalem which shows a deity seated on a winged chariot, as described
in the Old Testament.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... Yahweh.jpg
http://www.theoi.com/image/T17.1Helios.jpg

The story goes, the Chariot plunged into Eridanos ( Jordan ) scorching the earth, causing the Snow to melt, feeding the rivers and wells with fresh water and that is why Pharaoh-chariot had to plunge into the Red Sea, known as Yam Suph , the word Yam also means North-West and
Suph derives from Saphon, the Ugaritic name for Mount Hermon, also in Hebrew tsaphown ( צָפוֹן ) ( North Wind) and Greek χῶρον ( Xapon ) meaning North west.

In other words, the Sun melts the snow of Mount Hermon, melts into the rivers and streams, it'a a cycle, during the Winter, the Snow regenerates and that is also the origin of the regenerating Phoenix, the word Phoenix in Hebrew is קָנַן ( Qanan) or קֵן ( Kan ) thus why Canaan and Phoenix interchange and deriving from the Greek χιών (Khion) meaning Snow.

There is some evidence that parts of the Old Testament were originally written in Greek , One example is the name ' Lebanon ' ( Deu 1:7 )
and the root is Laban meaning white, but only in Greek does Laban become Lebanon , the word Babylon is Βαβυλών ( Babel > Babylon ) another example is the name Samaria which in Hebrew is written שֹׁמְרון (SMRON) in Greek that is Σεμερων , this is true for other words
for example Italia in Greek is Ιταλών ( Italon ) also Μακεδών ( Macedonia) , Pison (Φισων), Gihon (Γηων), Zebulon ( Ζαβουλ-ων) Ephron (Εφρ-ων) and Hebron (Χεβρων) from Χαβερ ( Judges 4:11) and Solomon ( Σαλωμων ) .
