sentenced to death for atheism’

Could anyone confirm this?

A man in Saudi Arabia has reportedly been sentenced to death on charges of apostasy after losing two appeals.
Several local media reports identified the man as Ahmad Al Shamri, in his 20s, from the town of Hafar al-Batin, who first came to the authorities’ attention in 2014 after allegedly uploading videos to social media in which he renounced Islam and the Prophet Mohammed.
He was arrested on charges of atheism and blasphemy and held in prison before being convicted by a local court and sentenced to death in February 2015.

Its real.

It shows how barbaric and primitive the religion is. It requires more fanaticism then any Abrahamic tradition. The poor people have been brainwashed since birth and live primitive imagination with no hope for advancement.

They embarrass humanity daily.

His defence lawyer entered a plea of insanity,

Ahmad was accused of uploading content to social media including videos renouncing Islam , Mohammed and his daughter Fatima who holds special significance within the Shia sect of Islam.
The defense entered an insanity plea as well as asserting that he was under the influence of intoxicants – drugs and alcohol at the time he uploaded the videos.

Weren't Christians killing folks just for holding the wrong opinions about how to worship God as recently as the 17th century, not to mention the entire medieval period? Puritans in Massachusetts colony burned Quakers at the stake. It doesn't take much to be labeled an "atheist" other than holding to beliefs that rub the "powers that be" the wrong way. Ask Joan of Arc.

Christians were called atheists by the Romans because they refused to placate the popular gods, even though many educated Romans were not certain they even existed. Why? Because they *might* exist, and we have to be superstitiously aware of anything we do that might anger them enough to bring calamity to mankind.

Christians, and Jews before them, were thought to have a "hatred for mankind" because they refused steadfastly to worship the local gods. How impious! We "Christians" (and I mean Europeans and their descendants in general, whether you believe in a God figure or not) look down upon Muslims in exactly the same way.

The problem is not that we ("Christians" and Muslims) continue to think this way, but that we do not respect each other's right to believe as we want. The key to getting along is to apply the rule of "reversibility." If it is not OK for you to be subjected to discrimination and persecution because you are not of the same faith as the majority, it is not OK to turn around and do that to others for exactly the same reasons.

Unfortunately, some lessons are never learned. :confusedsmiley:

Some Quakers were hung in Massachusetts (for what we would call contempt of court). A few may have died from severe whipping and other ill treatment. I don't think any were burnt. (I know it morally makes little difference).

You will never get a filthy muslim to communicate honestly about islam, they are all brainwashed since birth to avoid any and all criticism. Meaning they are forced to refuse reality here.

Would this comment be tolerated by anyone here if outhouse used the word "jew" instead of "muslim"?

Most jews can discuss real history, muslims cannot.

Now orthodox jews are just as crappy as muslims, but not normal jews.

jews are not embarrassing humanity daily in the news
