Thank you arnoldo.
In addition to the probability that Episcopal priest Morton Smith read that 1947 Anglican Theological Journal article, and that Morton Smith did not need to wait for a concept to win anyone's estimate that it was common knowledge, I suggest that Morton Smith personally knew the article's author, Robert McQueen Grant, who was also an Episcopal priest, also a NT scholar, also an SBL member and conference attender, also a graduate of Harvard, also formerly taught at Columbia,
etc.

And, Smith may have read the 1946 book by Robert Oswald Patrick Taylor, The Groundwork of the Gospels.
What compels you to believe that Smith took a sentence from Grant in a two page article and developed not only an interpretation of Peter's activity in Rome as something connected with the ρογυμνάσματα but that Mark furthermore, as Witherington notes, something more akin to ainoi. Witherington argues that Peter was saying "while Peter shaped his teaching in the form of chreiae , Mark followed his lead and took the larger recollections and accurately summarized the tradition . He made a narrative out of the individual chreiae and by and large did not insert large collections of Jesus ' teaching , so as not to interrupt the flow of that narrative . Thus he did not testify falsely as he wrote down single items as he recalled them." I think some of Witherington's concerns about the ideas of Mack and Robbins have validity. It's not simply that Mark developed a gospel using chreia but Secret Mark has it that Mark developed his own gospel into an ainos or ainoi. While the term "ainoi" is not explicitly used in the surviving fragments related to this secret Gospel, the idea of a "more spiritual" or "secret" teaching aligns with the notion of ainos, which often involves conveying deeper spiritual or moral truths through narrative or allegory.

Again, it is not a two page Anglican article alone
but also his exceedingly-likely personal knowledge of and from R. M. Grant
but also the very high probability that he read the 1946 Groundwork of the Gospels book
but also as well the possibility of other avenues of knowing precisely this.
And if the author of the non-Clement "Clement" "letter" knew such....

I don't understand. Are you suggesting that it is MORE LIKELY that Smith developed a letter written in the Greek style of Clement and Mark, using a legitimate looking 18th century script, and echoing ideas about chreia and greek education that only became widely recognized after or around his death than it is he didn't do all this? Are you really suggesting that the new wrinkle doesn't change the metric at all? What is the justification for this determination? Surely the more elements we discover that require specific technical knowledge on the part of a forger make the proposition of forgery less likely.

Again, it need not have been what you consider "widely recognized" for Smith to have known it.
I bet Smith also read A History of Education in Antiquity by Henri I. Marrou (1948), which further explored classical education influence on Christianity.
More likely that Smith wrote the "Letter" than Clement did?
Yes.

Re: Was Πάνταινον a Cryptic Reference to the Secret Gospel?

I'm sorry.
Please explain simply how the sort of ideas found in Taylor's work are clearly relevant to Secret Mark.
(I can see how those ideas provide a possible way of interpreting Secret Mark but that is not the same thing.)
Thank you.

In addition to Andrew's question about (ir)relevance

your Google Scholar stuff is obviously incomplete, as it does not include Grant in that Anglican journal in 1947--
Google Books* is surely not comprehensive, especially for early (pre-digital?) publications.
Though I can't check ATLA and other sources now, do you really imagine that Taylor's 1946 book
received no book reviews before 1958?

*[added] I meant to type GS both times [my mistake], not GB, but both, in different ways, are not comprehensive.

I included a number of book reviews. I'm learning how to use Google scholar.
