And curiously the LXX for Joshua 19:45 = καὶ Αζωρ καὶ Βαναιβακατ καὶ Γεθρεμμων In other words, it reads something else entirely. It never makes the identification with 'sons of lightning.'

And even if it did (which it clearly doesn't) thunder is not lightning.

How does Matthew get virgin from maiden?Stephan Huller wrote:That's very nice but how do you get from that to ΒοανηργέςWe also have Joshua 19:45 and "Bene-berak, the sons of lightning"
I already stated perversion from the Hellenistic rhetorical authors who were plagiarizing previous traditions.

But surely you have to explain Boanerges. That's sort of the point of the exercise

I already did.Stephan Huller wrote:But surely you have to explain Boanerges.
Most claim it is "sons of thunder"
And in the context as, Their loud voice, the ferocity in which they preach, their zeal for the lord, their power in fighting enemies of the movement ect ect ect

Where do you explain Βοανηργές. Do it now. Linguistically.

That's not an explanation. I shouldn't have overestimated your intelligence. With that logic anyone can argue anything any time they want. Thanks for wasting my time

... divine inspiration?Kunigunde Kreuzerin wrote:I have read somewhere that Boanerges is a joke and means "work (ἔργον - ergon) of castrated oxen (βόας - boas - Accus Masc Plur)"robert j wrote:Mark labelled James and John as “sons of Brontes”. In Galatians, James and John represent “the circumcised” in a letter devoted to arguments including the following ---“In freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm therefore and do not entangle yourselves again in a yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say to you, that if you become circumcised, Christ will not profit you at all. On the other hand, I testify to every man being circumcised that he is under obligation to keep the entire Law.” (Gal 5:1-3).
I found it funny that you quoted the reference verses of Galatians apparently without knowing that strange interpretation.
