Trying to find a copy of M.Casey's "Is John's Gospel True?"

Post by toejam »

http://www.amazon.com/Johns-Gospel-True ... 0415146305

This is going for $1,500 nowadays. Only a little out of my price range . None of my local libraries have it.

Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives to find a copy of this? hardcopy or electronic. I've been wanting to read this for ages.

No way. I had that book once.

Like I said... hold on to your old books of higher criticism!

Your best bet will be an interlibrary loan, made through university libraries or (many) public libraries.

You might be able to get someone to bootleg it (photocopy to PDF) if they have it or would want to borrow it themselves.

Thanks for the link. Turns out one university library nearby has it. I'm secretly hoping someone has already bootlegged it...

What's the big deal?
Everyone knows his answer is "No!"
You should be more interested in why my answer is "Mostly yes!"

I'd even pay for a bootlegged copy.

Much more valuable is Howard M. Teeple's 1974 The Literary Origin of the Gospel of John. No comment on whether it's in my personal possession in my home, suitably marked with all the scholarly derivations therefrom.

Yeah, it's been on my wishlist for a while. Wouldn't know where to get it. In other news, did you ever finish Bird 2014? I finally got around to reading and completing it.

^Yeah, I finished it. Since then, I've also read his response book How God Became Jesus (which he co-authored/edited) and a book he did with James Crossley, How Did Christianity Begin? A Believer & Non-Believer Examine the Evidence. He's right on the border between sincere scholarship and blatant cart-before-the-horse apologetics.

Yes, I wrote the long 3-star review on Amazon for Crossley & Bird 2008. Have not read the response book to Ehrman, but I haven't read Ehrman either. Bird 2014 was okay. I usually cannot stand to read evangelical writings, but Bird 2014 was tolerable and even helpful in some respects. He seemed wishy washy on a lot of points though.
