Does the Use of the Word 'God' = Gut/Good = Marcionism?

Just a thought flashed across my mind as I started my busy day reading Martin Luther - did neo-Marcionite missionaries have something to do with naming God 'God' among Germans who are said - I think - to have been 'Arians' initially (if memory serves me correctly)?
This, I think, is why we Germans from ancient times have called God by a name more elegant and worthy than found in any other language, a name derived from the word “good,” because he is an eternal fountain who overflows with pure goodness and from whom pours forth all that is truly good.
I've read it argued that the two words are NOT etymologically related. But how certain is this?
