Gospel of John 1:3-4

Post by Elishav »

As the correct translation:

Gospel of John 1:3-4

παντα δι αυτου εγενετο και χωρις αυτου εγενετο ουδε εν (ουδε εν or ουδεν ?) ο γεγονεν
εν αυτώ ζωή ην και η ζωή ην το φως των ανθρώπων

Most likely οὐδὲ ἕν. οὐδὲν (p66 א* D 1 1582 1071) seems to be an error.

The bigger question is the punctuation point, either before or after ὃ γέγονεν. I find Wieland Willker's handbooks helpful when looking at things like this:

“’That was excellently observed’, say I, when I read a passage in an author, where his opinion agrees with mine. When we differ, there I pronounce him to be mistaken.” - Jonathan Swift

οὐδὲν as a compd. οὐδέ and ἕν

οὐδὲ ἕν = οὐδὲν ?
