Inherited habit. Since the word "messiah" is so rare in the OT, proving Jesus to be this person derives from something else. It's unusual. Once a messiah is acknowledged to be the messiah odd for his followers to be engaged in these parlor games. Should be self-evident.

That's why Chrestos is a better fit. Since yashar is translated by chestos in the LXX saying Jesus is Chrestos makes sense once Clement and Justin say he's the angel who gives the name Israel to Jacob. This kinds of proofs are more convincing than falsifying the nature of the messiah

Jesus was made God in about 325 CE. The title of Messiah must have been how he was seen by the very first Christians and arguments about this alleged arrival of the Messiah are a natural consequence.

Jesus as God is far more important than a mere Messiah and his incarnation shouldn't require any pseudo historical justification.
