If Jesus did not exist...

Post by steve43 »

If Jesus did not exist, someone put together one heck of a conspiracy for it to last 2,000 years.

I would almost worship that man (or woman) just on general principles alone.

You're only allowed one ham-handed post per month.

Besides, one could almost derive the Argument from time from your first statement.

The Zeus religion lasted over 1,000 years.

Therefore, Zeus existed.

A: 1,000 years? Gee, that doesn't compare. Christianity's been around for twice as long!! You gotta try something a bit more long lasting, like [wiki]Ashur (god)[/wiki]. He was around for over 2,500 years.

B: But he's not around today so it doesn't matter.

A: Oh, well, what about Ahura Mazda, who the Parsees in India still worship? He's been around since at least 550 BCE.

B: But the number of believers has dwindled, so obviously he doesn't matter.

A: Well, when you put it that way, anyone who agrees with your unstated premises would come to the same conclusion.

My guess is that the admin didn't think it belonged where the initial post was placed. Was he wrong?

I split threads if I want to do so.

In any case, welcome to the forum.

Look how long the concept of El has evolved and transformed. The only concept that surpasses it is the rainbow serpent legends of Australia.

Too date, no one has proposed any sort of a decent replacement hypothesis for a martyred man at Passover that generated multicultural mythology that grew in Hellenistic cultures who found monotheism to be better theology then worshipping the Emperor and a slew of deities wide and varied.

That's not a terrible argument. (It's also not the OP's argument.)
