[2] These two terms, מום and תמים , are pivotal to much of our discussion herein. מום can connote a visible blemish or wound, a physical deformity or disability such as a gnarled hand or a limp, a sensory disability such as blindness or deafness, or even a character flaw, and it stands in binary opposition to תמים . Lev 22:21 best articulates the principle that any person, animal or object free of מום is by definition : תמים

An animal with a blemish was not acceptable as a peace offering. Likewise a man with a physical defect was also thought to have some moral defect.---- Innocent תמים and מום defect
