Did Mark know the epistles of Paul?

Discussion about the New Testament, apocrypha, gnostics, church fathers, Christian origins, historical Jesus or otherwise, etc.

Did Mark know the epistles of Paul?

Post by Giuseppe »

Today a Christian apologist has said to me that "the majority of scholars" (so to change!) don't think that Mark knew the epistles.

Is really still so, even after Dykstra etc?

My own perspective is that John and Mark are extensions of the Pauline tradition, perhaps originally a single text, later separated for whatever reason.

Did he say this to discredit Dykstra? or Carrier? or both?

no, only to argue that in Mark the Eucharist episode is from an independent tradition from that of Paul/Luke and so at least Mark 14:25 would be surely the words of a historical Jesus.

When really it is based on Phil 1:18-19.
