Why to meet the Lord just "In the air": because Jesus was crucified there

Post by Giuseppe »

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

It is strange (unexpected) that the saved people will meet the Lord "in the air" and not "in the third heaven".

Unless the "air" was used in this context to allude impliciter to a battle that had to be consumed there just few seconds before the ascension of the saved people there "to meet the Lord".

Usually, in the ancient world, when a general won a battle, in the same battlefield he received the spoils of the defeated enemy. Or the reunion with the prisoners just freed from the tiranny of the enemy.

For example, when Caesar won the Gauls at Alesia, he received there the defeated Vercingetorix.

If the Christians would have met "in the air" the Lord just as immediate effect of a battle just won by the Lord against the demons, then that battle would have happened just there, "in the air".

And if Paul is describing that reunion between Christians and their Christ just there, "in the air", as the just final epilogue of a battle that had to happen just there some minutes before that same reunion, then the first phase of that battle - a phase where apparently the demons were winning, by crucifying the Lord of Glory - should likewise be happened there, "in the air".

Ergo Jesus was crucified "in the air".
