The article is excellent. We have to think that people back then were like people today. Today, we have many who exaggerate Christians persecution and it would not be a stretch that many believers back then would also exaggerate persecution.

But this (conveniently, in my view) disregards the relevance of the pagan accounts of Domitian's persecution of those who had (from their perspective) "drifted into Jewish ways" (as Dio Cassius put it and which Suetonius had personally witnessed). It also disregards who I feel is one of the best early Christian sources, Hegesippus, who gives a detailed account of Domitian's interrogation of the grandsons of Jude that is in keeping with these pagan accounts.
