Was the danielic Son of Man interpreted according to Isaiah 60:8 ?

Post by Giuseppe »

Isaiah 60:8-10
8
Who are these that fly along like clouds,
like doves to their nests?
9
Surely the islands look to me;
in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,
bringing your children from afar,
with their silver and gold,
to the honor of the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel,
for he has endowed you with splendor.
10
Foreigners will rebuild your walls,
and their kings will serve you.
Though in anger I struck you,
in favor I will show you compassion.

Who is coming “on the clouds” is a group of people just as the danielic Son of Man represents all Israel.

But this group is the gentile army coming to conquer the Judea and sent by God himself to punish the Jews.

In this sense, could Jesus be predicting the Roman invasion of the Judea?

Mark 14:62
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

(Mark 14:62)

So Jesus is saying that the gentile “Israel” is now in the grace of God and this new Israel will be to judge the world.

This introduces an anti-thesis between the danielic Son of Man, interpreted as the old Daniel, and the new Son of Man, the Church.
