Why the high priest is never cursed by the evangelists

Post by Giuseppe »

Despite of phrases like "Race of vipers!" et similia, the high priest is never cursed - him personally - by the evangelists.

Why?

I think that the reason is that the high priest represents the entire judaism. A Jesus who curses expliciter him is a too much anti-Jewish Jesus even for the feelings of their authors.

From this POV, it is curious that who is cursed in the place of the high priest is just Peter by the story of the his denial. The its function is: see that renegade of Peter, please ignore for the moment the high priest.

But if we assume that the story of the denial of Peter is missing (as in Luke), then not coincidentially Jesus is not beaten before the high priest (as in Luke): in this way there is no need of avoiding the focus on the high priest by inserting a negative story on Peter. The reader can't have moral suspicions about the high priest, since Jesus is not beaten before him, in Luke.

Hence I think that the high priest is never cursed because he is too much the representative of YHWH on the earth. In any religion of the deity X the high priest represents X on the earth. Even a blind realizes this.

So the high priest is a positive figure (in the minds of the evangelists) insofar he is doing the precise will of YHWH: to condemn to death Jesus.

But even so, there is a moral dilemma great like a house : how can the high priest be a positive figure when all the time Jesus is against the scribes and pharisees?

Really he is cursed by the his blindness: Jesus answers about his identity, but he continues to be concealed. This remembers the ignorance of the demiurge about the existence of a higher god.

Who better than demiurge could realize the existence of a higher god?

Who better than the high priest could realize the true identity of Jesus?

But in both the cases the miracle happens that the demiurge and the high priest - his representative on the earth - don't realize who is before them and above them.
