It is the same "sea" that the New Chosen People had to pass through to meet Jesus in the Third Heaven (see Thessalonicians).

So accordingly the "Galilee" is the Third Heaven

while the "Judea" is the real earth or the lowest sphere.

The fear of the disciples on the so-called "Sea" reflects their essential not-ability to ascend alone in the Third Heaven. Only Paul could.

Hence the need of a Jesus coming himself down (=his walking on the water) to search for Peter and the 12.

So the walking on the water is really allegory of the real baptism of death made by Jesus to save the his new Chosen People.

Note that it is a strange "baptism" of death: Jesus walks on the waters, he doesn't die.

The death of Simon Magus was only apparent, and was made in imitation of the real death of Jesus.

So here the baptism of death of Jesus is only apparent, and it is made in imitation of the real baptism of death of Jesus.

Simon Magus is a pauline figure and from this POV the walking-on-water Jesus represents the way by "Mark" to say: you Pillars claim that you were ascended to Third Heaven but really your ascending was a mere failure. Paul did it fully and he didn't fail. So you can only see the imitation of the true Jesus: the paulinized Jesus who is not the true Jesus just as the Markan Jesus walks on the water without real suffering (since only the real Christ suffered).

Paul doesn't claim that he ascended to the third heaven, but rather that he knew someone who ascended to the third heaven.
