On July 8, 2019, Larry posted on his blog that his Leukemia has returned from a period of remission, and that his prospects for recovery are almost nil.
He will stop posting to his blog and will retire from academia to put his personal affairs in order.

He will make arrangements for his blog to remain accessible, if only as an archive, in the event of his expected passing.
Like many others, I salute him as one of the "voices of reason" in the Evangelical critical community. When he expressed his opinion, it was always on a carefully considered basis, unlike many other bloggers.
He will be sorely missed.
