Island of Potamos == Island of Patmos

In ancient times, before Christianity spread through Rome, Tiber Island was avoided because of the negative stories associated with it. Only the worst criminals and the contagiously ill were condemned there.

John of Gischala was imprisoned there.

I assume that the reader knows already that John of Gischala ended his days in a prison of Rome.

This view is corroborated by the Syriac text of the Book of Revelation which gives us Potamon, not Patmos, and Potamon is the Greek accusative case of Potamos, a river.

Again, I assume that the reader knows the context of the quote of Patmos island, etc.

I knew that, but Tiber Island is more specific.

True, however in the expression 'island of river', the river that is meant had to be sufficient to recognize the island.

Where is this expression? (I don't have it all memorized yet...)

My point is that "island of Patmos" in Book of Revelation is a deformation (probably not deliberate) of 'island of potamos' and 'ποταμός' means 'river'.

Hence, who is talking in the Book of Revelation is a John found in the "island of the river": the Tiber Island?

The book from which this is plagiarized provides a little additional context.

Very interesting, Giuseppe. May I ask how you stumbled on this tantalising piece of information?

Reading the same source quoted by Peter above. In addition, a case has been made also by Lee Harmon that John of Gischala was the real author of the Book of Revelation (the original layer, at least).
