Discussion on the radio about new book by Karen Armstrong, which argues rise of secularism from renaissance caused religious wars.
My understanding is that an emperor standing around in the snow to gain audience with a pope several centuries before had a lot to do with it, but actually does secular thinking track back to some words put into the mouth of someone?
And might those sentiments track back to stoicism and a major proponent - Seneca?
