Categorizing and Cataloging the Radical Bible Hypotheses

Post by Stephan Huller »

I have a bold idea which requires the cataloging of every radical Bible theory ever made. I would appreciate the assistance of anyone at the forum. I need (a) the name of the inventors of the theory (b) a sentence summarizing their claims. To start:

1. Robert Eisenman, Qumran material was about James the brother of Jesus
2. Carotta, Jesus was Caesar
3. Pete Brown, Constantine invented Christianity from scratch
4. Mary Helena, Jesus was Antigonus
5. D Murdock, Jesus was a pagan god
6. Dan Brown, DaVinci preserved the secret wedding of Mary M and Jesus
7 Schonfeld, Jesus pretended to die on the Cross
8 Islamic pseudepigrapha Judas crucified in place of Jesus
9 Koestler, Jews are not from Middle East but Central Russia
10 Greenberg, Moses was Egyptian not Hebrew
11 ? Moses was Akhnaten
12 Bernal, the Egyptians were black
13 ? Jesus was black
14 ? Jesus traveled to Kashmir
15 von Daniken, Bible about space aliens

I am just sitting here in my car adding these. Anyone have any other notable theories of this sort to add?

Allegro's Magic Mushrooms
The metric to judge if one is a good exegete: the way he/she deals with Barabbas.

Who disagrees with me on this precise point is by definition an idiot.

Barbara Thiering's work - "The central thesis of [Jesus the Man] is that Jesus was the leader of a radical faction of Essene priests. He was not of virgin birth. He did not die on the Cross. He married Mary Magdalene, fathered a family, and later divorced. He died sometime after AD 64. From the New Testament gospels and Dead Sea Scrolls, Thiering constructs a new history of early Christianity which she contends was hidden in pesher coding" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_the_Man_%28book%29)

Don't know who came up with these, but one sees them 'out there' in internet land:

The 'Paul was Simon Magus' hypothesis?

The 'Paul didn't exist' hypothesis?

The 'Josephus was Paul' hypothesis?

it would be good to boil these down to a one sentence "pitch" with a name associated with them for what I have in mind if possible

The list includes those whose historicist views are unconventional -- indeed, has been criticized for this inclusion.

okay thank you. I will incorporate that over here as I am dealing with "the Bible" rather than just Jesus.
