Re: Richard Carrier and the burial in heaven.
I know this is an old thread, but Dr Carrier recently blogged about Adam's burial in the Third Heaven, explaining his view. I thought it worth adding the link here for completeness only, not to start up the conversation again:

Jews didn’t have a concept of “outer space”. Carrier is such a fraud. If you’re going to evaluate these theologies than you have to think of them in the times they emerged in. “Doctor” Carrier should know that, but because he has an agenda to promote his mythicist rhetoric, he doesn’t care(ier). Does he seriously think that ancient Judaism had the same cosmology as fucking Scientology?

Re: Richard Carrier and the burial in heaven.
I have recently discovered through some research that the Marcionite use of xenos - usually translated 'stranger' was used because the god they worshiped was the one who dined with Abraham as a foreign guest (also xenos in Greek and used as such in Philo). In other words, Carrier misuses the Greek terminology of the Marcionites. This is a wholly Samaritan divinity and accounts for why the mountain was said to be dedicated to Zeus Xenios - i.e. the god of hospitality.
