‎בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃
(Gen. 1:1 WTT)
When God began to create heaven and earth (Gen. 1:1 TNK)
IN THE beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Gen. 1:1 JPS)
Personally, it is one of the few verses, I sort of understand. ...
... save for the fact that you seem to be "sort of" quoting a long outdated (i.e., 1917) JPS translation, which begs the question: Are you being sloppy or disingenuous?
I quoted JPS 1917 and JPS 1985 - TNK. That shows the difference between the newer and older versions. I have those two in Bibleworks and whenever I look up a verse I look at the the two JPS versions and the Hebrew. I don't think any other Jewish translations are easily available for cutting and pasting online. Perhaps you know some.

May I point out that although you went to the unusual effort to post a link to Strong's for bara in your post, I haven't been exactly overwhelmed by any substantial additional value in your posts here in general. But to paraphrase you from your previous contribution -
Perhaps I don't understand the point of your post [messages].
That being said, your point about bara not necessarily meaning creation ex nihilo is quite correct if rather technical. I wasn't really responding to that.

Regarding your feeble attempts at personal attacks. I'm sorry I offended you for my stance in favor of a nod to tradition for public Jewish prayer at the Kotel. It turned out that my daughter was thinking of going to that similar to what I think you may have mentioned about one of your female family members. I get the impression you are annoyed at me for some perceived insult arising from that situation. Fortunately, my daughter didn't appear to immediately think I was a Jewish reincarnation of Hitler for having a slightly different view of appropriate public Jewish behavior at holy sites.

I understand there was some kind of subsidy for American Jews to take part in that, probably would be interesting to look into what actually went down except I'm pretty sure the answer would be depressing.

No doubt many saintly Jewish women spend their spare time knitting mittens for IDF soldiers. However, their men folk don't have to start a blood feud if someone questions whether that is an efficient use of one's time.

OK, although I do not recall posting a link to Strong's (other than indirectly).

I have no clue what you're talking about.
