The original version of the Torah.

Post by Krupin »

In my opinion (based solely on logical consistency), the original version of the Pentateuch (or rather its prototype) was written at the end of the prisoner by priest "Elohist" lived in Samaria, belonged to the tribe of Ephraim. Worldview characteristic of the author:
Profession: probably a priest. Worshiped gods married couple Yahweh + Asher. This pair is designated "Elohim".
views on the family: up relations of the gods - the monogamous family with a touch of matriarchy.
Political orientation: Patriot tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, which are referred to as "Jacob," a friend of Egypt (yet unconquered by the Persians). Lack of hatred for other tribes of Palestine.

The content of the primary works Elohist:

Abraham comes to Canaan on their own. At the insistence of Sarah gives birth to a son named Israel by Hagar. For some reason exempt city of Beit She'an. Melchizedek - the priest and the king of the city rewards and blesses him. With the blessing of Melchizedek, Abram becomes the darling of the Elohim (Yahweh and Asherah). Abram and Sarai new names (Abraham and Sarah). Asherah gives Sarah a son - Isaac. Grateful Abraham sets Asherah idol in Beersheba.

Gods experience of Abraham and Isaac on devotion (a failed sacrifice). In honor of this event Isaac gets a new name - Jacob. Israel marries Leah and Jacob (formerly Isaac - Rachel). The sons of Israel are sold into slavery Joseph - the son of Jacob. Joseph takes revenge on them, turning the building into hereditary slaves. Before his death, Jacob adopts Ephraim and Manasseh, that they have inherited his land in Palestine. Other children of Joseph are noble Egyptians.

Joseph sent villains (and their descendants) in the heavy construction work. But he observed the principle of "an eye for an eye" Slaves get enough food for life and procreation. But the new Pharaoh became physically exterminate Jewish boys (exceeding allowable penalties). The gods decided to save the amnesty and the seed of Israel. The role of savior is best approached Moses, brought up in Pharaoh's palace.

After the murder of the Egyptian Moses fled to the land of Samaria. There he became acquainted with the family (the righteous) priest. When Zipporah led to the holy father's house uncircumcised Moses, Yahweh wanted to kill him. Zipporah reacted with lightning speed, cutting the groom. In such circumstances, Moses met with the Lord.

The gods have decided to send to Egypt Moses and Zipporah. Moses had to spend Zipporah to the palace of Pharaoh, and to provide an audience. Zipporah - Priestess and Witch had to win in the contest of the Egyptian sorcerers, and a series of unpleasant (but nonfatal) disasters force Pharaoh to let the captives. Zipporah brilliantly coped with the task 7 (instead of ten) "executions". Liberated prisoners gods moved to Palestine "on eagles' wings."

On Mount Horeb Yahweh and Asherah handed Joshua (the leader of "Jacob") and Moses (the leader of "Israel"), two (identical) stone tablets of the family (and not ten) commandments. Warlord (Ephraimite) Joshua conquered the land to Israel ("Jacob" - the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and perhaps Benjamin) lived on their land.

Elohist, supposedly died, did not finish the book until the end. His heirs have moved the service to a competitor - who returned from the Babylonian captivity of Jerusalem priests. The book was edited and appended to the interests of the new owners.

You can find more about Melchizedek in the Dead Sea Scrolls, (IIQ13).

Melchizedek is the archangel Michael, a.k.a. elohim or el.

I think Rashi favored the interpretation that Melchizedik was Shem.
According to some Jewish traditions (e.g., B. Talmud Nedarim 32b; Genesis Rabbah 46:7; Genesis Rabbah 56:10; Leviticus Rabbah 25:6; Numbers Rabbah 4:8.), Shem is believed to have been Melchizedek, King of Salem whom Abraham is recorded to have met after the battle of the four kings.
Since Rashi sluts are in full control of Chabad, many web sites equate this with an official Jewish view.

One of the ideas behind this is that the Patriarchs spent many years at the Shem and Eber Torah Academy.

The Talmud states that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all studied in the academies of Shem and Eber. The Talmud further proclaims that the Patriarchs kept the entire Torah before it was given.
With the exception of a few minor things like sister marrying as we have discussed before.
