Esau

Post by Ethan »

Arabic scholars have related ISA too the Biblical name ESAU who is introduced in Gen 25:25.

In Gen 25:26, Jacob is so-named because he took hold of Esau's heel, עקב - יעקב. However in Gen 25:25, Esau was so-named ... but the Hebrew text is missing the word that so-named the character which means this verse as being change, only the Greek version of the texts reveals the poetic word, DASUS (δασύς ) "shaggy surface".

The word אדרת (addereth) is introduced in this verse and reappears in the story of Elijah & Elisha.

DASUS (δασύς) is also a translation of רענן (ra`anan) also translated συσκίου (Suskiou) "thickly shaded"
and a translation of עבת (aboth) "thick" in Neh 8:15 which is translated δεσμός (Desmos) "fetter" in Ezekiel 4:8

Psa 118:27
God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords( עבת), even unto the horns of the altar.

Job 39:10
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band (עבת )

Eze 3:25
But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands (δεσμοί ) upon thee
and shall bind (δήσουσίν) thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:

δήσουσίν > δήσους > Ιήσους

Job 39:10 - Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band

The word 'Unicorn' occurs 9 times in the King James, the Hebrew word is unknown and the translation
depends on the Septuagint, that renders μονοκέρωτος "One-Horn" , most likely a ῥῑνόκερως "Rhinoceros"
therefore the Hebrew word, ראם (Ram) is loaned from ριν (Rhino).

Pausanias 9.21
I saw also the Ethiopian bulls, called rhinoceroses owing to the fact that each has one horn (ceras) at the end of the nose (rhis), over which is another but smaller one, but there is no trace of horns on their heads.

In Gen 25:25 , Esau came out Red, thus his alternative name is Adam
called the first-born (prototokos), so he parallels Adam, in Gen 2.

One of the wives of Esau was a חוי (Gen 36:2) and
the nominal form is חוה "Eve", the wife of Adam.

The "Fall of Adam" also parallels the "Fall of Esau".
