What Evidence or What Suggestions Are There that Jesus Was a Shapeshifter?

Post by Secret Alias »

So far I have

1. passing through crowds, flying (Luke chapter 4/Diatessaron/Marcionite interpretion)
2. Acts of John mention of John seeing Jesus change his shape
3. Judas kissing Jesus to identify him (interpretation of Gospel of Barnabas but must be older)
4. Simon Cyrene/Judas substitution tradition
5. Faustus 'taking on' the face of Simon Magus in Clementine tradition
6. the Marcionite epithet 'the Stranger' and 'strangeness'
7. Polycarp's identification viz. the Peregrinus tradition = Proteus

Any others come to mind?

10. the Legion narrative (because it suggests that Jesus had another form)

John 1: 31 - 34 (RSV):

[31] I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel."
[32] And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him.
[33] I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, `He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'
[34] And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God."

WTF does this have to do with Jesus being a shapeshifter?

"Straightway, while I was contemplating these things, behold, the heavens opened and the whole creation which is below heaven shone, and the world was shaken. I was afraid, and behold I saw in the light a youth who stood by me. While I looked at him, he became like an old man. And he changed his likeness (again), becoming like a servant. There was not a plurality before me, but there was a likeness with multiple forms in the light, and the likenesses appeared through each other, and the likeness had three forms."

The clothes might not be very remarkable, but the word choice here (same root as our 'metamorphosis') ties in with your theme.

Mark 9:2-3 - "Transfiguration"

2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured [μετεμορφώθη] before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.
