Re: Envisioning the beginnings of Jesus worship
I think that some of the works of the NT are fiction. Most specifically, the Gospel of Mark is an entirely invented allegorical fiction. I think there was an underlying Acts of the Apostle, which was about Paul's ministry. This may have been "based on a true story". There is an original l...

Re: Envisioning the beginnings of Jesus worship
The beginnings of IS XS worship look thoroughly compatible with the influential Roman obsession of using abbreviations in written or inscribed media. I agree that the abbreviations IC XC possibly is of Roman origin. As you say, the Romans were big on this kind of thing. Way more than other cultures...

Re: Envisioning the beginnings of Jesus worship
When I created my BCE Paul I did so by taking the so called "authentic" letters literally and assuming a Jewish Paul predating the Gospel stories. This is false. My entire thesis was based on an erroneous point of view. "Paul", whatever the actual source might have been, is clea...

Re: Envisioning the beginnings of Jesus worship

Re: What is the earliest manuscript with χριστός written out?
Thanks for the replies. The issue I'm interested in in the OP is scribal habits. If I'm a fourth century scribe, what do I write for the word Christ? I'm not trying to deduce the meanings of nomina sacra (not in this thread) and inscriptions may be relevant but are not decisive for scribal habits. ...

Re: Dr. Sarah's Friendly Refutation of all Mythicism
@MrMacSon Yes. And whatever the case, I think the key point is this. Most people work from a "traditional" starting perspective, even if they question the validity of the traditional narrative. From this I mean they start from the basic story of the Gospels and Acts, and thus envision a s...
