Re: Was "IS XS" a "consistent code name" like 007?

Whether you could, if they let you, talk to MI6, but you cannot speak with ancient Christians, so? They knew who it referred to. If you have a different, alternate, reading, what is that? The whole thing is simply popular fiction. The "Church", IC, the letters, the Apostles... all of it. ...

Now that I think about it - James Bond and Ian Flemming - are a pretty good example of what has happened with the gospel Jesus story. The created literary figure of James Bond has had many actors play the part in movies. As the gospel Jesus historicsts have supplied many versions of their, assumed,...

I agree. JtB is the most important character in the stories (besides IC of course), the rest are just background. If the Gospel writers got JtB from Josephus then we have a better understanding of how early they were writing. Not to forget the Slavonic Josephus JtB story in the time of Archelaus 4 ...

Re: Letters as a unique Christian genre

Originally I wanted to title this thread something like "Ignatius as a competitor to Paul", and I may still do that, but while trying to formulate my thoughts I had a quick aside. Letters, epistles, ἐπιστολή, and letter writing was an especial genre in Greek and Roman literature. Seneca's...

Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

When I wrote, above "It is possible to have (or have had) two homes." I did not limit possibilities to having two homes at the same time (hence the "have had"). E.g., I have had, in sequence, more than one home; though I don't have two homes today, I don't now live where I was b...

Yeah, Jesus was probably just chilling at the family summer house on the lake for spring break.

I mean, that's way more plausible than Mark 1:9 being a later addition. Right?

Re: The Deir Ali inscription proves that Chrestos was not a holy name

It is true that I consider it more likely that a person named Paulos/Paulus, being a Roman name, writing to people in a Roman veteran colony, Corinth, being composed mostly of Roman military veterans and their families, would find the abbreviation IC XC for Iulius the Xrhstos instantly recognizable...
