Re: Review of Carrier's OHJ, Part 6 of 12: Section 6.1 Talmud Jesus 70 BCE
Wioth all due respect, there is a tradition of equating Ben Pantera and Ben Stada: "The later printed texts of TB Shabbat 104b read as follows: "R. Eliezer said to the Sages: Isn't it true that Ben Sṭara brought witchcraft out of Egypt by marking on his flesh? They said to him: He was an i...

Re: The Problem With The Theory That the Pentateuch Was Written in Alexandria
Yes I'd read through that well done. Although as you know I am more skeptical of the integrity of the evidence when it only exists as extracts extant in Christian refutations of anti-Christian writers. Origen refuting Celsus thus is similar to Eusebius refuting Hierocles, or Athanasius refuting Ari...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
Why would the Hebrew have Yahweh and Gods and the Greek Lord and God? From what I understand, the reference to YHWH in the Hebrew was converted to Lord in Greek because of a naming taboo surrounding the name YHWH. But such questions are about why the Greek and Hebrew Texts differ rather than when e...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
In all honesty, I am not familiar enough with Gmirkin's claims to know whether he claims that the Pentateuch was written originally in Greek. Gmirkin concurs with the long-established evidence that the Pentateuch was originally written in Hebrew and then translated into Greek. (There are usually cl...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
Can we all at least be honest and admit that the only reason why this stupid idea that the LXX was an original exemplar rather than a translation crept into the discussion was because it "fits" with the notion that the Pentateuch borrowed from Greek writers? It doesn't make sense that Mos...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
AB: ".... More dangerous than any Jews were the followers of the Aztec state religion." Read again? I did not write about dangerous Jews but Jew haters, and their, so to say, running dogs. ps. on the internet no one knows you're a dog? And you were accusing me of being some type of Jew-ha...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
Are you seriously saying that you believe that Moses wrote the Pentateuch? Are you suggesting that the Jews believed that someone other than Moses wrote the Pentateuch? No, but they were wrong about that, which allows us to recognize that they may have been wrong about other aspects of their religi...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
But, AB, your comment, number #1 above, today, about others also, does not comport with what R Gmirkin wrote above, Jan. 7 in this thread: "Yes, Judea appears to have been the only nation in antiquity to have implemented Plato's agenda for creating a theocracy, national literature and so forth...

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch
Either the Jews thought Moses wrote the Pentateuch or they thought someone else wrote it. If the Jews thought Moses wrote the Pentateuch they would have to think he could write in Greek for the LXX to be an original exemplar of his Torah. Otherwise even by Gmirkin's standards the LXX was recognized...

Why is it stupid? You have been unable to answer that.Secret Alias wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 9:14 am I keep asking myself "why would a Buddhist be so strongly attached to a stupid theory?" Hmmm.
