Inconsistency in reasoning used by John T when assessing ancient texts.

I hope that this thread is not inappropriate - if if it, then feel free to delete it. I have noticed that John T, within this forum, employs two standards when evaluating texts. Each standard, on its own, is a legitimate, and perhaps useful, way to assess texts - but they are in stark contradiction ...

Re: List of arguments to date Mark after Hadrian

Yes, I am assuming that there were Christians based in the Greek world during the early second century. The Book of Revelation, if written in the time of Hadrian as I strongly suspect it was, testifies to Christians of long-standing in Asia Minor, so presumably since at least the late first century...

With all due respect, it is possible to hate fictional characters because of their abhorrent traits.

Perhaps YHWH/Jesus was understood by the writer of the Pauline letters as a subordinate deity, akin to YHWH's role in Gnosticism.

You have yet to cite a mythicist ignoring archaeological evidence.

Re: The Samaritans

Here is a list of 50 real people of the Bible that archaeology confirmed. Of course to the mythicists they are either interpolations or the Bible lied about their role regarding Canaan and Samaria. https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/people-cultures-in-the-bible/people-in-the-bible/50-people-...

Re: The Samaritans

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. You can lead a mythicist to facts but you can't make them think. John T is done with this thread. Before you go, can you tell me who this is addressed to and why? I don't know what to make of it. The archeological evidence is fai...

Re: James the brother of Jesus who is called Christ in Josephus

Does anyone else wonder about these "equitable" citizens who got all worked up over the injustice done to James? Ananus was not someone to be trifled with. Who would really have challenged him for the sake of the peasant brother of a failed messiah? That has always made me lean toward int...

Re: James the brother of Jesus who is called Christ in Josephus

You are right. I have never heard of anyone claim that James the Just the brother of Jesus was Christ. Is that how you read it in Greek or from a mythicist forum? "and brought before them the brother of Jesus, whose name was James, and some others;" Now it reads as it should. You've never...
