Re: Robyn Walsh, The Origins of Early Christian Literature

a somewhat crude narrative exposition in the earliest surviving external references to the gospels that is at odds with some of the literary allusions in those gospels. [...] OT allusions that were made in the earliest external references to the gospels were so different from the types of allusions...

Re: Was Morton Smith a forger?

However, the original usage appears to be a distinction between texts which teach the basics and texts that teach advanced stuff suitable only for advanced students. The idea that the esoteric material should be restricted, not so much because of its actual teaching, but because it deals with subli...

Re: Plato’s Timaeus and the Biblical Creation Accounts [Gmirkin]

Has RG ever owned to such? As a matter of fact, Gmirkin has admitted to having made a mistake and has modified his theories accordingly - which is appropriate scholarly practise. See https://vridar.org/2022/05/17/the-7-kings-of-revelation-17-part-4/ , where he wrote in the comments at 2022-05-19 06...

Re: Plato’s Timaeus and the Biblical Creation Accounts [Gmirkin]

Amulets may not typically include (anachronistic) chapter and verse citations. I am not asking for such references, nor have I ever. Rather, I am talking about references within the amulet's text to the alleged fact that it was a copy of a written text. To put it in perspective, amulets inscribed w...

Re: New dating for Dead Sea Scrolls

Again, I'm not aware if the results have been published yet, but in this video (thanks for the link Neil  ) Hans van der Plicht has given a preview of some of the results regarding two Dead Sea Scrolls. 4Q201 The Book of Enoch and 4Q504 The Words of the Heavenly Lights . If they have not be...

Re: Plato’s Timaeus and the Biblical Creation Accounts [Gmirkin]

As the verses on the plaques appear outside a biblical context they cannot prove that the blessing was already incorporated into the Pentateuch in the early 6th century B.C.E. They also cannot prove the existence of a written Pentateuch in the pre-exilic period. Only a discovery of biblical scrolls...

Re: Plato’s Timaeus and the Biblical Creation Accounts [Gmirkin]

You really are nothing more than another John T. Blatant misrepresentation, blatant misreading of simple English sentences, refusal to read anything contrary to what you want to believe, false claims about what you have read -- and outright insults and slurs. That's the only way you seem to know ho...

Re: Plato’s Timaeus and the Biblical Creation Accounts [Gmirkin]

Evidently, the ng opinion is not shared universally. So I quoted Gabriel Barkay, et al., in a peer-reviewed journal, BASOR. "We can further reassert the conclusion reached by most scholars: that the inscriptions found on these plaques preserve the earliest known citations of texts also found i...

Re: Was Morton Smith a forger?

But the joke is not over, now the mythicists cling to it as holy scripture. Actually, the mythicist Robert M. Price is of the opinion that the Secret Gospel of Mark is a forgery, which he suspects was created by Morton Smith. See, for example, "Peter Jeffery, The Secret Gospel of Mark Unveiled...
