Re: How accurate would be this interpretation of Daniel?

I'm wondering if we can be any more specific than 'first century'. First study in my first message : Roger T. Beckwith : there is strong evidence to show that the Essenes, the Pharisees, and the Zealots all thought that they could date, at least approximately, the time when the Son of David would c...

Re: How accurate would be this interpretation of Daniel?

I'm not interested in the calculations of Daniel 9. But what I do know is that the Jews of the second temple believed that time would be fulfilled in the first century. That's what's important, it seems to me, in a topic on a forum about Christianity. I don't have any other answers for you, but I'm ...

Re: How accurate would be this interpretation of Daniel?

Maybe my questions are worded terribly, or maybe nobody wants to speculate on this. How was it interpreted? What are some of the more plausible chronological interpretations that would have been derived? Messianic prophecy. Non answer really. Did you ask how the text was interpreted ? Then my answe...

As a messianic prophecy.

I'm convinced that Mark put his story in this era for that particular reason (Mark 1:15)

Re: How accurate would be this interpretation of Daniel?

I know it's a sketchy site, but it's a quick and easy way to find claims like these. https://www.gotquestions.org/seventy-sevens.html Daniel 9:24-27 is a key biblical passage. It is the only Old Testament passage which refers to the Messiah as “Messiah.” Elsewhere He is called “Shiloh” (Genesis 49:...

Re: Ellegard's Argument from Notoriety to fix Jesus under Pilate

The crucifixion as such provided yet another clue. Palestine was under Roman rule, and the death penalty was the privilege of the Roman procurator. Now the only early first century Roman prefect or procurator of Palestine who was widely known (indeed, the only one about whom Philo and Josephus have...

Re: Possible textual evidence that Mark came after Matthew?

I don't think that the fact that Mark specifies that this is a fulfillment of the Scriptures is enough to make this verse a late interpolation to follow Matthew's model. On the contrary, one could say that it was Mark's verse that inspired Matthew to add more throughout his text With Mark what is l...

Re: Possible textual evidence that Mark came after Matthew?

If Mark were retouched that much, im wondering why Joseph is completely absent from the story. Yeah, I think that's the difficulty, is trying to understand or explain the entire editorial framework. Why would an editor do X but not Y? And this issue has caused many people to assume that because a s...

Re: Possible textual evidence that Mark came after Matthew?

I have no doubt that Mark was revised in the presence of Matthew, so yes, parts of Mark were written after Matthew and conformed to Matthew. The real problem here is that people keep thinking of these as actually independent works that are purely preserved in their original form. NOTHING in the New...
