Re: Contradiction in Paula Fredriksen's use of the Argument from Silence
The Argument from Silence is considered strong by Fredriksen against the prophecy of the destruction of the temple being pre-70 CE, while the same scholar doesn't like to use the Argument from Silence (under the assumption of the totality of the seven pauline Epistles) against the historicity of Je...

Re: Most Manuscripts are not Primary Sources
There is little doubt that Constantine demonstrated an effective exercise both of military state control and of codex technology. On the contrary, Constantine did not have effective control. For example, the emperor chose to play favorites with the anti-Donatists and attempted to crush the Donatist...

Re: Most Manuscripts are not Primary Sources
1) I'd suggest that the (relative) political power of the Roman Emperor Constantine was greater than that of Stalin Certainly wrong. The technology and the centralization of government power was several orders of magnitude greater in the 20th century for the effective exercise of state control. By ...

Re: Smoking gun that the testimony of Papias is bogus
Agreed, but there is no way that 2 Peter existed on its own ever. 2 Peter could only have been created in the context of a collection that included almost all of the works of the NT and it is written as a way to tie the collection together. How would you know? It clearly references 4 or 5 works fro...

Re: Dr. Sarah's Friendly Refutation of all Mythicism
This must be one of those classic situations where a text says X but a reader assumes it cannot have meant X, so an interpretation that is not X seems more plausible than just reading it as saying X.
So the interpretation is about the reader not the text.
So the interpretation is about the reader not the text.

Re: Dr. Sarah's Friendly Refutation of all Mythicism
Mark's Jesus But they were all "Christ" due to being the seed of David. I'm not so sure (Mark 12:35). I can't say I'm across this I'm afraid. I see it as meaning "David's descendant will be greater than just a king like David", but if there is a better answer I'd like to underst...
