Re: Josephus Antiquities 20.200 on James: The scholars who doubt
@ABudhist why do you doubt the ben Damneus argument ? There seems to be a super simple sequence of events here: "called the Christ ?" is a sidenote So the original just refers to James the brother of Jesus ... and the Jesus is qualified by the end of the passage where it talks about Jesus...

Re: Critical Study on Chronology of the Ancient World
Good day. It is sad to see that alternative history is revolving around Fomenko and his ideas of Tartaria and maths. It wasn't always like that. Fomenko's early publications grew from studies of Morozov and Postnikov, not bothering with maths, Russia, or similarity of words. But these were never tr...

Re: Is the Wonderous Tall Man in Acts of Perpetua and Felicitas "Jesus"?
Both Jesus (who is not named in the text explicitly), and the Wonderous tall man/Trainer both call Perpetua "Daughter" and in the midst of the garden a white-haired man sitting in the dress of a shepherd, of a large stature, milking sheep; and standing around were many thousand white-robe...

Re: Paul's Letters, Taken at Face Value, Reveal that He was not a Typical Early Christian!
I'd suggest what he introduced was the atonement idea. As per the Odes of Solomon the idea the saviour is a saviour who saves wasn't new, but the legalistic atonement was. [This w]ould suggest Paul also downplayed the earthly host body for the Christ (his deeds, words, etc) so much so it appears to...

Re: 430 or 215 years in Egypt?
Yes, Japhethite, 1 Chron 7:22ff. Not to come across as high minded, but it truly does baffle me how people can pour over scripture and its periphery with such zeal and yet do so in a way that lacks rigor. It's like eating too fast. It'll all go down, but then you'll have to throw some of it back up...

Re: The Reasons to Believe Some/Much of What the Church Fathers Report
can we agree at least that Marcion and/or the Marcionites hated YHWH? No. I don't know if any of you are married. I doubt many are. This is what I liken the "hatred" to be like. Let's say there's a couple. One loves Chinese food. The other is ok with it but not every special occasion. The...

Re: Histoire et mythe à propos de Jésus-Christ by Alfred Loisy
Alfred Loisy was a mere Christian apologist. Cute. Wrangled with the Pope, tussled with Harnack, on the Index, and excommunicated... but he didn't like Couchoud. So bad man bad. We live in a secular era where practically nobody cares and the only way to get a rise at all is to be cartoonish and vul...

So what indeed? In each case, they argued for the conclusions that they held.schillingklaus wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 4:15 pm So what? Detering was a Christian, too; yet he had no qualms stating the inauthenticity of the epistles and the inaccuracy of the gospel narrative as a whole.
