Re: Was the Paul-in-Acts a pagan?

Acts 16 continues with her masters being upset that the woman could no longer sooth-say, so they complained to the authorities and had Paul and Silas arrested. I don't think it leads onto Nero. Also, the woman wasn't a Pythian priestess, just a sooth-sayer. You may be right, but I don't think so: t...

Was the Paul-in-Acts a pagan?

So there's the possibility of a Roman sub-strata to anything that is Pauline in Christianity, even before Marcion. The sub-strata might be dark and Mithran. Was the Paul-in-Acts a pagan? The question arises because Paul was a member of Herod's immediate family, and Herod's family was close to, and ...

Re: Matthew's gospel first written in Hebrew?

There is no evidence that Matthew wrote in Hebrew. Not so: there's lots of the earliest fathers who say so, or in the "Hebrew Dialect" which may mean the Hebrew dialect of Aramaic https://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=161741#p161741 quite the contrary, the evidence is pretty str...

Re: Detering: A new examination of the question of the historical setting from which the Pauline Epistles are to be unde

From: The Dutch Radical Approach to the Pauline Epistles - Hermann Detering (we have taken the liberty of changing "Paul" to Faul where the subject is excludively the Faulines, as we want to separate it from Paul-in-Acts, the son of Herod , and we have replaced "Jewish-Christians"...

Re: A militant/political Jesus, and Paul

That Text Excavation link will be as dead as a doornail, I'm afraid. I think Ben just had all he could take of the chaos and sometimes abusive comments he was getting Thanks you're right; I changed the link to point to the IA. I tried contacting Ben with no success. Here is a table I drew up in 200...

Re: The earliest witnesses to the New Testament

However, I can quite confidently say that unless the quotes by Papias are forged, 1 Clement is a 50-100-year-later forgery, Ignatius's writings are all forgeries and Polycarp only wrote during the very final decade or two of his life (or alternatively, that Marcion came much earlier than we know ab...

Re: The earliest witnesses to the New Testament

Hebrews, almost unanimously agreed to be a later work in the style of Paul rather than a genuine Pauline writing, Is it? I view it as an early work, not in the style of Paul, and (importantly) not originally presenting itself as a Pauline writing at all. Instead of being a non-genuine Pauline writi...
