Re: Was Isaiah a false prophet?

Perhaps the prophets are merely an attempt by Jerusalem sages to construct a counter-cult in the Assyrian model... Maybe its roots are pre-Babylonian captivity. Michael Wood has noted that Pre-Captivity, there were plenty of clay figurines (representing gods and goddesses?), male and female, but af...

Re: Were the Church Fathers 'Philosophers'?

Suetonius, 12 Caesars , "Vespasian": He bore the frank language of his friends, the quips of pleaders, and the impudence of the philosophers with the greatest patience ... *** Suetonius, 12 Caesars . "Domitian": "He put to death many senators, among them several ex-consuls, ...

Re: Were the Church Fathers 'Philosophers'?

It's only a matter of time before we find out that Christianity is compatible with quantum mechanics, and has been from the start. That has, in principle, already been accomplished. A N Whitehead has supplied the "Container" for understanding Quantum Mechanics. The Physicist Henry Pierce ...

Re: Were the Church Fathers 'Philosophers'?

Christianity, like most other religions, moves with the times. When it started, it was a magical/mystery type religion, at a time when that was popular. That's how the vocabulary was taken. Then it became a philosophical one -- in fact, it had been compatible with philosophy all along! Terms were r...

Re: Were the Church Fathers 'Philosophers'?

Notice how they're all converts too, we don't here of any second generation christians (kids) until the 3rd century. This is a very important point, perseusomega9! In a major Movement, things do not ...uhhh... change until the second generation. That which was Crystal Clear as a Motivating Factor t...

Re: The Cleansing of the Temple as anti-Zealot polemic

In Mark the "abomination of desolation" is therefore just Bar-Kokhba Josephus, Antiquities, 13, 14, 1 - 2 (in part): SO Demetrius came with an army, and took those that invited him, and pitched his camp near the city Shechem ; upon which Alexander, with his six thousand two hundred mercen...

Re: What is sure and not sure about John the Baptist

John is of the Mishmarot Group "Bilgah".

THAT is certain, whether in a Literary Setting (...as a Fictional Story written around the Passover of 4 BCE) or Real one (It actually happened and was reported by a Nicholas of Damascus or someone in the Priestly Groupings).

Re: Vespasian As A Member Of The Piso Conspiracy?

The Crown is secure, DCH. (It's hidden in an empty paint can among several in the shed.)
Besides, he hasn't told us where Frugi Piso makes an appearance in the NT and what happens next.

CW

PS: This requires a more serious response. I'll have to consult with General Atwill and the Troops.

Re: My Lifelong Obsession with Against Marcion

Very impressive work, Stephan. The interesting thing, to me, is that we are moving from Immutable TRUTH to, "Well, I did something that needed a rewrite...ummm...about the Son of God and stuff..." What an admission! We have seen this before: Lenin had to prove that Russia had in fact gone ...
