Re: "Pure objectivity" is a myth

A good researcher will be self-aware and make those things explicit. If they are not clear, the critics have a right to ask for those belief systems that led to those interpretations etc. At the root of history and its interpretation is the evidence. This is mute. The researcher must make the evide...

Re: Constantine

I previously gave the example of Akhenaten as a wannabe religion maker who failed. Or consider Genghis Khan, surely one of the most successful conquerors ever. His influence on religion? Not so much. What was Ashoka's influence over the spread of Buddhism? Warlords and the book religions (1) JUDAIS...

Been There Before ... Banjo Paterson - Sydney or the Bush - late 1880's ... There came a stranger to Walgett town, To Walgett town when the sun was low, And he carried a thirst that was worth a crown, Yet how to quench it he did not know; But he thought he might take those yokels down, The guileles...

Re: Does the Markan author have a "Poker Tell"

IMO the most prominent "poker tell" in Mark (and the gospel writers) is the pervasive accommodation of pro-Roman propaganda. Stuff like "Render unto Caesar", pay your taxes, the centurion has the greatest faith in all Judea, and so on. Let me know if you want a list. This "p...

Re: Why don't mythicists condemn Satanism?

Acts of condemnation from the high moral ground are exclusively reserved for many (not all) historicists and the cohort of self-righteous bible bashers.

Re: Dura Europos

The Dura-Europos gospel ms evidences Christian presence in D-E. D-E has been extensively excavated; many religious buildings have been identified, including a real synagogue. Christians gathered; the house church is the only viable candidate place, evidenced by paintings and inscriptions, and archi...

Re: Dura Europos

No I want to walk through a process to explicitly re-identify and re-confirm the integrity of the two supposed Christian nomina sacra in the supposed "house church". Neither of the supposed nomina sacra have over-bars / supra-linears. Hopkins knows they there were necessary on manuscripts ...

Re: Dura Europos

I've often asked Pete if this isn't proof of Christianity in the third century what would you need. Explicit identification and confirmation of the existence of Christian nomina sacra in the "house church". Provide that and we have a Christian "house church" in the 3rd century.
