Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

Who's left? Morton Smith writes in 1973 about him visiting in 1958 his friends the Patriarch and Seraphim, whom he knew in the 1940s, the people who ran the Jerusalem Patriarchate and the Mar Saba monastery when he discovered the document. Seraphim must have been immediately apprised of Morton Smith...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

I am bringing up facts that few people have ever considered. Before I started this thread I had no idea that the whole Greek Orthodox Patriarchate accepted the document as genuine. Did you? You claim to have known that?

So I am ignoring evidence? I haven't seen you bring up any new evidence since you were my age. It's just a constant retread of old and outdated facts.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

As I only come to these matters from the perspective of how human beings edit experience in memory let's compare Dragas's memory from thirtyish years later with Quesnell's notes: Dragas: Kallistos (Dourvas) - not an easy person to get along with but an honest man the reason why the books were all mo...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

More on the attitude of Greek Orthodox priests toward the document. This from a conversation I had with George Dragas and which I sent to my friend Harry Tzalas on May 26, 2015. He says he was there when Quesnell asked for the manuscript on June 1, 1983. He said he is also good friends with Meliton ...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

I've ordered this book which represents excerpts from Seraphim's seventy years of journal keeping at Mar Saba. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc-d2gxPqEnCvLDCGbsL4Y-WM66ATQjj8HQk7QpqruSb1nF_8B-eM2VKcoWTBkqijnQEc0cXPTp-ARNpDDbYO-JAy_q0YxOVEmiich8cPuRvRe7WZu_lHB9FhrIPDOblD8...

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives

That's proof that he planted books? Surely he told Seraphim about his discovery within 24 hours. The holy man must have recognized the unusual book with no cover and writing in the back pages. Not much goes on in a monastery. Prayers. Meals. Sleep. And books. Surely suspicions would have been raised...
