Re: 1 Cor 10:20, “they sacrifice to demons”

There is an underlying complexity to the Marcionite material. For instance Justin Dialogue 33 - 35 the argument Justin makes against a Jew: Justin: And I am not ignorant that you [Jews] venture to expound this psalm as if it referred to king Hezekiah; but that you are mistaken, I shall prove to you ...

Just Google 'Solomon' 'demons' 'bottles.'

For the perspective of a Samaritan see Justin's negative portrait of Solomon.

Re: Gullotta and Hurtado versus Carrier: a 'dialogue' between deaf

No it's not, LOL. It's one you invented out of your arse to special plead the Gospels away from counting as biographies What motivation would I have for inventing something like this. The gospel Passion narrative is a pastiche of various prophetic passages. The empty tomb has already been discussed...

Re: 1 Cor 10:20, “they sacrifice to demons”

We can speculate that it was a corruption of Marcion Why would it make more sense to speculate that Marcion added the bit about 'Jewish' demons when Solomon establishing demons in the central building in Judaism exists independently of Marcion? In other words, the idea that those in Jerusalem worsh...

Re: Gullotta and Hurtado versus Carrier: a 'dialogue' between deaf

Biographies aren't sacred literature. The gospel is a sacred text. Scholars want the gospel to be something 'useful' for their purposes rather than what it is - a historical curiosity. This rebaptism of the gospel as 'biographies' is a great example of the universities making Biblical exegesis WORSE.

Re: Gullotta and Hurtado versus Carrier: a 'dialogue' between deaf

the Gospels are the earliest biographies of Jesus Was the gospel really a biography or an account or a proof of the fulfillment of Jewish prophesy regarding the coming of the messiah according to certain statements contained therein? This is a critical distinction. A biography is principally intere...

Re: 1 Cor 10:20, “they sacrifice to demons”

If you accept that the 'Great Church' as Celsus calls it preserved a pristine copy of the letters of Paul and documents associated with the founder of Christianity then you must accept the document in its present form. This would mean that the apostle understood 'demons' here in a wholly exaggerated...
