Re: Sunday service instead of Saturday?
See Didache date uncertain probably early 2nd century CE. But every Lord's day gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, un...

Re: Enough Criticism!! Why the naked slutboy in Mark 14:51?
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked By canons of historical criticism, I declare this vignette embarrassing. Surely St. Mark Church’s could not have been...

Re: Manuscripts: The Problem with the Synoptic Problem (Brent Nongbri)
The minor agreements between Luke and Matthew against Mark are IMO particularly vulnerable to issues about possible later harmonisation of the texts.

Re: The Origins of Judaism, Yonatan Adler
When Torah was first written is one question. When many tried to follow it is another question. One opinion (not necessarily matching mine): Jerusalem Post 'The Origins of Judaism': Finding how far back rabbinic tradition goes - review Prof. Yonatan Adler’s book provides proofs both for and against...

b) and was his failed attempt to be a good poet relevant to his banning poets from his fantasyland? omg, SG -- surely even you must know that what Plato objected to was the way the poets portrayed the gods, the immorality - he was not opposed to the techniques or arts of poetry at all. Re: Enough of "Textual Criticism"! What Do People Imagine Marcionism Looked Like If You Visited Their Synagogues?
I have been wondering where we can situate an "Against Marcion" that accuses him of mauling the Gospel (Matthew). Here are the known candidates: Justin Martyr of Rome (ca. 160) Theophilus of Antioch (ca. 170-180) Irenaeus of Lyons (ca. 180-190) In favor of Justin: nothing really. Justin d...

Re: Klinghardt on ‘abolishing the Law & Prophets’
Klinghardt says that Mark would have removed the trial before Herod to prevent the Marcionite accusation against a Jewish king as evil killer of Jesus (Pilate alone being left as the innocent killer of Jesus). There would be also simmetry between the Good Thief and Pilate, and the Evil Thief and He...

Re: Klinghardt on ‘abolishing the Law & Prophets’
Leaving aside the precise relationship between Marcion's Gospel canonical Luke and original Luke, it seems clear IMO that the first part of Luke 23 and its parallel in Marcion is secondary to Mark. It is not just that the listing of precise charges in Luke and Marcion seems secondary, but the passag...

Re: Klinghardt and the Question about Fasting
I am trying to understand this thread. Does KK recognize that since the second century there were reports of the passage being read as if John the Baptist was "scandalized" by Jesus? But John is offended when he hears of Christ's miracles— because, <you suggest>, he belongs to the other <...
